Bags of Corn Seed
For Giving Tuesday this year, we want to bless 450 families of our Grace Schools students with corn seed for their gardens. Your gift of $15 will purchase one bag of seeds. This is enough seed to plant 1/2 acre of corn. That’s about half what a family needs to plant to have enough food for a whole year.
Along with seed corn, we’ll be training families to make compost to reduce the extremely high costs of chemical fertilizer and increase the viability of the soil on their farms. With only one growing season, it is important for Malawian families to plan ahead to produce food for the entire year.
Last year was a very difficult year for farmers. With the sudden increase in fertilizer costs and dependency on chemical fertilizers, many families failed to raise even the smallest amount of corn to feed their families for the entire year.
In order to assist families, we brought back our school breakfast program year round and of course, already provide school lunches. However, feeding just the kids on school days hardly meets the needs of the entire family. This year we want to help families have seed to plant in their gardens and teach principles of composting in order to increase their yield.
Thank you for praying for our students’ families. We are grateful for your love and support for our kids.
