Help Feed a Family for a Year for just $26
Preparing compost is a family chore. Everyone works together to prepare the compost and the fields.
We want to bless families with corn seed to plant in their gardens this year. Your gift of $26** will purchase one bag of seeds. This is enough seed to plant 1/2 acre of corn. That’s about half what a family needs to plant to have enough food for a whole year.
Over the past few months, we’ve trained more than 400 families to make compost to reduce the extremely high costs of chemical fertilizer and increase the viability of the soil on their farms. With only one growing season, it is important for Malawian families to plan ahead to produce food for the entire year.
Our Family and Child Services team is visiting every home to make sure they’ve got their fields ready and their compost prepared. We’re just waiting for the seeds and the rains to begin planting!
**Regretfully as the season for planting has arrived, the price of seeds has skyrocketed. We had hoped against all hope to get our seeds for $15 as we did last year, but the prices have gone up to $26 for 10 lbs of seed. I do want to be sure we have enough to get all the seeds needed for our families. I'm so sorry for this late change in the amount needed.
Thank you so much for helping the families of our students today with your gift of seeds.
Thank you so much! We are truly grateful for your generosity!
This corn meal mush made from ground corn and cooked like grits is the staple food of most Malawian families. It is called nsima.
Compost makes all the difference in the world as can be seen in the difference between the corn on the left and the corn in the top right corner of this photo. This field was part of a demonstration plot used to teach sustainable farming methods at the Grace Center.
