The Piece God Created Me to Do – Piyason Mapepa's Story
I love playing my guitar and worshipping! I do a lot of other things at the Grace Center but my gift and my joy is leading in worship. That is how I started working at the Grace Center.
In 2008, I married my beautiful wife and we began looking for a church to attend where we would be taught the truth about God, get involved and where I could hopefully play guitar. My family was very angry with us. They thought we should continue going to their church. The first time we came home from the Grace Alliance church, my mother and father were furious. They refused to speak to me and threatened to disown me for leaving their church.
In 2009, I was given an amazing position: cooking for Pastor Phiri and caring for his home. I was honored to step in to such an important role. And my life has completely been changed. The first thing Pastor Phiri did was to care for me! He met with my family and helped bring healing to the wounds that had festered over our decision to join the Grace Alliance Church. Next, I began cooking for teams that come to visit Malawi. Karen has taught me to cook pizza and pancakes, bread, muffins and cakes! I’ve learned to supervise the kitchen and the workers assigned to me. And now, I’ve learned how to drive!
My favorite time of the day however is when I have a chance to pull out my guitar and sing. Praising God through worship and leading others to Him gives me joy like no other.
What is the piece in your hands?
